Public Speaking
This course, titled "Effective Speech," centers on crafting civic engaged citizens who can advocate on their own behalf within a public sphere. Based in the canons of rhetoric and Aristotelian rhetorical principles, the course centers on three major speeches and a wide variety of low-stakes opportunities to practice public speaking in front of an audience of classmates. Students write, revise, and perform narrative, policy, motivational, epideictic, "elevator," and impromptu speeches over the course of the semester.
